The room of a house in the Pompeii ruinsToday three of us went to the Archeological Site in Pompeii for some good ole exploring. We got up, packed up a little lunch, and headed to Pompeii. We were worried it would be misrable in the sun all day because the weather has been very hot and humid lately, but to our pleasant surprise, the weather was awesome! We had a nice cloudy morning and a sunny afternoon both complimented by an amazing cool breeze.
We declined any tour guides that were offered to us upon entering the site, and went off on our own with a map and a little tour book bought from a shop. We roamed all around. We saw all kinds of awesome columns, structures, gardens, roads, bones, and lots of other things. We had a great time exploring and wandering around the sites and peaking into little alleys and doorways. Making left turns or right turns through many back streets. We saw old frescos and mosaics and contemplated what this city of 20,000 people would have been like in its prime.
A picture I took of some clay pots laying aroundWhenever we would become tired, we would find a nice shady place and sit down and much on some of our snacks, then return to our roaming. We hit almost all of the well know places (except those under construction, and a few others) including the Village of Mistery, the amphitheater area, and The House of Faun just to name a few. I have lots of pictures of this area, and to be honest, I think Pompeii is one of my favorite old places to explore. It is basically a city that has a few regulations about where to go, but is overall a place to Roam free.

A view of the Caserma dei GladiatoriWe had a very nice day here. We are currently on the last leg of the trip, and within the week, I shall be state-side once again. There are no more exciting trips outside of Naples planned. There will still be a little exploring left to do in Naples, and then not to mention the trip home shall be an adventure all of its own.
